"Me and my girlfriend had no idea what to expect. The road up you’ll definitely need all wheel drive car that can handle deep dips and some rugged off road terrain. Other than that the pictures do not do this place justice. The combination of the hospitality from Shannon, Terra, and Todd, the spiritual surroundings of nature, the Milky Way galaxy and Mother Earth have captured me forever. Speechless. Already planning on the next trip back." -Neil R.
"Talk about nights in the hills with you and the stars..this place is amazing.
Shannon has setup a nice little campsite with a platform for your tent or sleeping situation, picnic table, potable water, and a campfire ring(if it's not fire season).
It's a beautiful secluded little spot up the hill with a beautiful view and just serenity. It was the perfect little weekend away." -Torryn J.
"Great tucked away place to stay! We met Shannon in town so she could escort us to the site the first night and we were glad! The road is a little rough with dips and loose rocks and gravel, so 4WD is absolutely necessary.
The site itself was very nice. Tucked under a giant tree, shelters you from potential rain, but dosen't block your view of the stars and the hills. Up at the site, there is a fire pit, large picnic table, and platform to set up your tent on. A spigot with potable water is nearby which was extremely convenient!
There are wild animals that wander the property so if you wake up early you might get a chance to catch the wild pigs or deer grazing in the area. She had a dog, Max, that loved our little dog and Max followed us most of the time while we were at camp. He became our camping companion. It was also a great place to let our little dog roam and run around.
It was a great getaway from our busy everyday lives. Expect no cell service, millions of stars, and interesting landscapes that the Lost Coast and Mattole Valley has to offer." -Caroline H.
"It's like a dream to stay here. Well worth the drive and trek up the mountain! Yes, I'm confirming like other reviews you must have a 4x4 (can't speak to AWD) to get up here. We rented a 4x4 SUV just for this. You can spend a day on the Lost Coast Trail (hour away), or go an hour east to Humboldt Redwood State Park (<90 mins away). We spent a day relaxing on the property, too. Ryan is so kind-hearted and a caring host. He was happy to give us great tips on how to explore the LCT. We were grateful to disconnect from the toxic internet and online distractions here - I wouldn't change a thing! We met deer, quail, even what we think was a Northern Saw-whet Owl one night, joining us in the glorious oak tree above our tent. This is a camping trip we will always remember and hope to visit again." -Jackie B.
"Oh my goodness was it hard to leave this spot! The view from the platform is even better in person. The property has several places to hike / explore. Ryan and Rochelle live in a yurt further down the hill from the campsite. They are wonderful hosts, and it was nice to know they were close (although other than arriving and leaving I didn’t hear or see them much). This is truly a spot where you’ll feel alone and in peace to soak up every drop of the beauty all around. Ryan provided great directions to arrive, and even though I had no service and am not the best at directions, I found the spot by following his step by steps. He had a great tip to go a more scenic route to arrive, and also recommended a couple hikes on my way back out. Thank you! While I went alone with my pup, the spot is large enough to hold a big group. Ryan and Rachelle have a truly magical spot and anyone who is able to stay here will be blown away. I am already planning my trip back." -Michelle S.
